Art Bias and and the kids craft table

I was invited to run the Spread Love project at Art Bias' Open Studio Event that was part of Silicon Valley Open Studios.

Art Bias is an incredible place— a maze of studios, many talented artists, and an incredible diversity of styles and practices. I was invited to provide visitors with a hands on activity which adds a richer experience to such events. It was a two day event that started at 10:00 am and went until 5:00 pm. Long days, but great potential.

Erika Adkins, an encaustic artist and Art Bias board member invited me to participate in the event after participating in the project when i was at Sanchez Art Center.

A peculiar thing happened though and it both surprised me and made me sad. My project became a kids table.

Now, I am not saying that i have a problem with kids participating in the project. Quite the contrary. However, the adults did not se the value, did not see the reason, did not see the joy in participating. A couple of the artists from Art Bias sat with me and made a heart. Some even added to my languages. But the visitors were simply not interested, unless they had kids.

The children were incredible to work with. Asking them how they could spread love and seeing their responses was inspiring. I learned a lot.
